Godavari Riverfront Development at Nanded, Maharashtra

Client: Nanded Waghala Municipal Corporation
Length: 5km

Nanded is an important religious centre for the Sikhs and in many ways a typical small Indian town. The River Godavari bisects the city into North and South Nanded and is the focus of the religious and social life of Nanded.

The Master Plan focuses on regeneration of the river. The North Bank will be integrated with the existing urban fabric while the less developed South Bank is proposed as an eco-park.

Key components of the project include:

  1. Ghats, walking paths and promenades
  2. Buildings for social infrastructure
  3. Revival of natural drainage systems
  4. Revenue generation systems
  5. Parks, gardens, street planting and eco systems
  6. Lighting
  7. Street furniture, art, sculptures
  8. Reorganizing cremation activity
  9. Solid waste management

The project is being implemented through a public private partnership between IL&FS and the Nanded Waghala Municipal Corporation under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission.
