Jama Masjid Precinct Redevelopment, Delhi

Client: Municipal Corporation of Delhi
Area: 28.3Hectares (70 Acres)

Jama Masjid – the Friday Mosque – is the religious heart of the walled city of Shahjahanabad. The master plan for the area between the Jama Masjid and Red Fort, intends to revive the public realm in this heritage precinct.

Our goals for redevelopment of the precinct are to celebrate its glorious past and at the same time be rooted in the present.

Key Interventions proposed in the masterplan include:

  1. Restructuring land use
  2. Restructuring the streets to accommodate the needs of all users – motor vehicles, non-motorised vehicles and pedestrians
  3. Parking facilities
  4. Urban infrastructure services
  5. Conservation of built heritage
  6. Directional signage
  7. Landscaping of streets and open spaces

The Redevelopment Plan has been prepared after an exhaustive consensus building process involving the Delhi Government, the MCD, the Delhi Urban Arts Commission (DUAC), the Delhi Police, other concerned civic agencies, affected stake holders and technical experts.
